Healthy, Delicious -100% Grass Fed, Pasture-Raised
Burk Ridge Farms is dedicated to raising 100% Grass-Fed and Grass-Finished Beef, and Pasture-Raised Pork with an unwavering commitment to creating the very best products available. We are committed to the health and well-being of our local community, local economy, friends, neighbors and fellow farmers. We believe that pasture-based small-scale farming, using rotational and natural grazing methods, is good for healthy people, healthy animals and a healthy land.
We are 100% free of GMOs, growth hormones, and steroids throughout our farm and never use non-essential antibiotics. We grow our own grass in a better-than-organic way, which means no herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, synthetic fertilizers or soil treatments are used. At times we supplement with a neighbor’s grass that is grown the same way. And of course we never grain-finish, which is known to deplete natural and beneficial nutrients in beef. Our pigs are pasture based, and adhere to the same standards as our beef. They however are allowed to eat non-GMO and locally grown grains.
To achieve the very best flavor and tenderness quality in our beef we take a lot more time raising our animals, allowing them more months in the pasture to age. This added step of process is much later than other farms and is the key to the superior flavor and tenderness of our grass-finished beef. To guarantee this quality we also control the bloodlines and calve our own animals. Our animals are born on our farm, or at times on our trusted neighbor’s farms (that share the same commitment and values as we do).
The way an animal is raised and cared for, and the nutrition they receive throughout their life affects the meat's flavor and nutritional qualities. Our animals are intended by nature to graze and we give them plenty of room to do just that in our pastures. Receiving all of the benefits of the nutrition from the pasture plants, soil, insects, fresh air and sunshine. Carefully planned rotation provides a hygienic benefit, always moving the animals away from their waste. Since they are born, raised and processed on the farm this makes for a stress-free life cycle. Processing, on-farm, in a truck, reduces or eliminates the stress hormones that are associated with undesirable flavor.
